Strope, 76, of RR 2 Box 246-A, Wyalusing PA 18853, formerly of Colonial Towers, Towanda, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Dale & Kathy Putnam. Hazel was born May 11, 1930 at the home of her beloved grandmother, the late Jennie Steinback Cahill Carpenter in Moxie, Terry Township. She was the eldest daughter of the late Carl and Thelma Carpenter Philippi. She attended Wyalusing area schools. Hazel was baptized in 1959 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and regularly attended meetings at the Kingdom Hall on Old Mills Road in North Towanda where she continued her Bible education. She thoroughly enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, filling a special role by offering attention without distraction, and love without hesitation. She will be fondly remembered for her creative storytelling, and for always being up for playing school, cards, or board games with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. J., Mandy Putnam of West Warwick, R.I., Tony Suydam of Tunkhannock, Tara Patton of Tunkhannock, Alan and Geoffrey Chamberlain of Winsted, CT, Thomas and Taylor Baldwin of Troy, Pa. 7 great-grandchildren, John, Shayona, Tony, Kenyon, Summer, Gabby and Kate; and numerous nieces and nephews. Step-children: Marvin (Ingrid) Strope Clayton, ID M. Brewster (Karen) Strope Jr. Kennewich, WA Ivan (Pat) Strope Gastonia, NC Sandy Strope Hill (Dennis) Carrigan Charlotte, NC Lynne (Richard) Jonas Iron Station, NC Jo (Ray) Pelton Max Meadows, VA 16 step-grandchildren and 12 great step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, M. Brewster Strope Sr. on January 24, 1984. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday July 1, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Kingdom Hall, North Towanda, PA with Brother David Malosh, officiating. Interment will be in Bradford County Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA.
