Wells, age 85, of New Era, PA, passed away Sunday morning December 20, 2009, at the Towanda Memorial Hospital. He had been a resident in the Skilled Nursing Unit. Carl was born March 27, 1924, in Laceyville, PA, a son of the late Leland and Mabel Vanderpool Morningstar Wells. In his youth he worked construction and helped build the current Wyalusing Rainbow Bridge. He enlisted in the Unites States Army, earning four bronze stars for his service in WWII. After returning from the war Carl worked at Rynveld’s Wreath Factory, later going to work for Penn DOT on their bridge crew. He married Loueva Canfield of Moxie, PA on October 14, 1943. They celebrated 62 years of marriage together. Loueva predeceased him on October 15, 2008. Carl was a member of the Moxie Community Church. He was a member of the NRA. Carl loved playing softball; he was a pitcher up until he was 71 years old. He was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. Carl was an avid hunter and fisherman; and enjoyed painting, gardening, and woodworking. He was predeceased by 4 brothers; Russell Wells, Ralph Wells, Leland Wells, and Wayne Morningstar, as well as 4 sisters; Beatrice Shedden, Mildred Teeter, Evelyn Shedden, and Marie Moore, and a grandson Justin Wells. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA, with the Pastor Howard D. Carr presiding. Friends may call on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Moxie Community Church building fund c/o Joan Grover, P.O.
