OBITUARY
December 18, 2009
Jay N. (JayBird) Davis Sr., age 74, of Dushore, PA passed away on Friday morning December 18, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Jay was born October 2, 1935 in Morristown, NJ a son of the late Richard & Helen McCourt Davis. Upon graduating from High School he entered the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After being discharged, he married the former Veronica Marie DeLue of Camden, NJ on July 10, 1954. Veronica predeceased him on August 31, 1973.
Jay worked for E.I. Dupont de Nemours for 10 years until moving his family to Dushore in 1972. He and Veronica purchased Jim Daly’s Bar in Dushore and transformed it to Jay Bird’s Restaurant which he operated for 20 years until retiring in 1992.
Jay was a life member of St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA and was a very active member of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore, PA where he was the former Steward and member of the board of directors. He was also a life member and past commander of the A.J. Bird Memorial Post # 384 V.F.W. of New Albany, member of P.B.O.E. #2191 Elks Lodge in Towanda and a member of Union Lodge #108 F. & A.M. of Towanda. He also was elected to Dushore Council in 1986 and was elected Mayor of Dushore in 1990.

Several nieces and nephews. Jay was predeceased by a sister: Jean Constantine in 2007.
A Transferal Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Monday, December 21, 2009 at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil’s Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 8:30 A.M. at the Homer Funeral Home until the time of the service.
Graveside Military Services will be accorded by members of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore, PA members are asked to assemble and pass in review at 9:15 A.M. on Monday morning at the funeral home.
The family will provide the flowers and ask that Memorial Contributions be directed to St. Basil’s restoration fund, PO Box 307, Dushore, PA 18614
