Obituary
Mrs. Catherine Gerrity Lambert, age 89 of Dushore, PA passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2010 at her home with her loving five children at her side.
Catherine was born February 27, 1920 in Duryea, PA daughter of the late Burke and Kathleen Quinn Gerrity. Her mother died soon after childbirth and she was raised by her father and grandmother Catherine Quinn, and aunts Jule Quinn and Helen Gerrity. Her family moved to Pittston, PA and she graduated from St. John's High School in 1937 and from Marywood College in 1941.
In September of 1941 she accepted a job with the U.S. Army Air Corp in Washington, D.C. being in the first group to move into the new Pentagon building. She left Washington at the end of WWII and returned to this area. She worked for the former Harrington and Company and Philadelphia Dairy Products Company in Dushore until her marriage to Robert A. Lambert in 1947. Catherine began working at Fitzpatrick and Lambert in 1962 and "retired" in May of 1987, but continued to work part time opening the mail on Saturdays and keeping track of the business and her sons as corporate secretary until her death. She was a quiet source of strength and knowledge at the dealership. After her husband lost his sight Catherine worked as his personal assistant and travelled with him to meetings and events all while raising five children. Her husband Bob Lambert predeceased her on August 31, 1995 after 48 years of marriage.
Catherine was a devoted member of St. Basil's Church in Dushore and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was also active with various local organizations, Tuesday Book Club, Dushore Lions Club, and Cub Scouts.
Surviving, are five children and their spouses: Mary and Thomas Yonkin, of Sayre, PA; Rita Lambert & Preston Hess of Seattle, WA; Katrina & Wayne Golder of Vancouver, WA; Leo and Denise Lambert and John and Dawn Lambert of Dushore, PA; a sister-in-law, Mary Lambert of Dushore, PA; eleven grandchildren, and two-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Jack Gerrity of Dushore and Delaware and Martin Gerrity of Berwyn Heights, MD and a special aunt, Jule Quinn of Avoca and Dushore. She was loved and admired by her entire family.
A Transferal Service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at 9:30 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at10:00 A.M. at St. Basil's Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, her pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil's Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Homer funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010 from 3:30 to 7:00 P.M. The member of St. Basil's -St. Francis Altar and Rosary Society will recite the Rosary at 3:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
