Sandy Gulich, age 76, of Dushore, PA, passed away peacefully and surrounded with love on July 20, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Scotts Valley, CA.
Sandy was born in Norwich, Connecticut on September 26, 1939, the eldest daughter of the late Otis and Dorothy Spaulding Browning. She attended the William Backus School of Nursing in Norwich, Connecticut. As a nurse for 55 years, Sandy worked in many aspects of nursing including pediatrics, hospice, elder care, home health, and family practice. Sandy touched the lives of many in our community with her dedicated service as a compassionate and loving nurse. Sandy was a loyal and trusted friend known for her generosity of spirit, great sense of humor, and fervent passion for Penn State football....GO PENN STATE!!
Sandy is survived by her daughter; Lisa Dailey-Goodrich (Scotts Valley, California), grandsons; Timothy Dailey (Oakland, California), Philip Goodrich, Patrick Goodrich and Jeremy Goodrich (Scotts Valley, California), sisters; Ruth Ann True (Dixfield Maine), Elizabeth Nash and husband Donald Nash (Damariscotta, Maine), brothers; Avery Browning (Danielson, Connecticut), Howard Browning (Abilene, Kansas), and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Besides her parents, Sandy was predeceased by her sister Patricia Paulsrud.
Throughout her life, Sandy enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and beloved companion of 16 years Bruno Najaka and they enjoyed traveling Sullivan County’s back roads. Sandy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, friend and co-worker, who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was also, in her day, a very good shuffleboard player.
Sandy came to Sullivan County in 1973. She was employed by Guthrie from 1994 to 2001, and Dar-Way Elder care from 2001 to 2004. She then was employed by the Laporte Medical Center from 2004 until her retirement on January 4, 2016. She also helped out as a nurse for our local ambulance associations calls.
Sandy was an active member of St. Basil’s Church in Dushore, PA and a member of McDermott American Legion Post #452, Ladies’ Auxiliary, Mildred, PA and a member of the Sullivan County Republican Women’s organization.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. John A. Kettelberger Jr., C.M., presiding. Interment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Mildred, PA.
Immediately after the graveside service, a luncheon and a time of fellowship will be held at the St. Francis of Assisi Hall, Mildred, PA.
Friends and family may call at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA on Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M.
Members of the Mildred McDermott American Legion Post #452, Ladies’ Auxiliary will pass in review at 5:00 P.M.
