Mrs. Elizabeth Josephine McKenna R.N., age 96, formerly of Davidson Township, Sullivan County, PA passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016 in Wilmington, DE.
Elizabeth was born, May 10, 1920 in Allentown, PA a daughter of the late Elsworth Otto Joseph Gruver and Bessie Laros Gruver. She graduated from the Allentown High School a member of the class of 1938. She then graduated from the Abington Memorial School of Nursing in 1943. During the war she was a Registered Nurse for the Abington Memorial Hospital. She began her career as a corporate nurse for the Standard Press Steel of Jenkintown, PA and later for National Lead (Dutch Boy Paints) of Philadelphia.
She married Hugh. P. McKenna of Philadelphia on February 14, 1953, who was a former Philadelphia Democratic ward leader. Hugh passed away on February 5, 1999, just 9 days before their 46th wedding anniversary. She continued her career and raising her family working for Philadelphia Inquirer, Smith Kline French (Beecham) Pharmacy and finally at I.T.E. Circuit Breakers of Philadelphia. In retirement they moved to Nordmont in Sullivan County where they were active with the Sonestown Legion. She moved to Elkton, MD in 2004 to be nearer to her children.
She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mildred, PA and a member of the Sonestown Post #601 American Legion Auxiliary.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Stuart P. Wolodzko of Philadelphia, Pa and two brothers: Gerald Gruver and Miles Gruver, both of Allentown, PA.
A Transferal Service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA 18614 and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, PA with Rev. Richard Rojas, pastor, presiding. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laporte, PA.
Friends may call Friday morning at the funeral home from 9:00 A.M. until the start of the Transferal at 10:00 A.M. Members of the Sonestown American Legion Post #601 Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold a service at 9:30 A.M. at the funeral home.
