Following graduation in 1955 he married Louise Richardson Kirk with whom he shared 60 wonderful years and had three children.
That same year he joined the Northern Trust Co. where he worked until his retirement in 1992. He held a number of senior management positions at Northern Trust including Director of Human
Resources, Head of International Banking and Executive Vice-President/Chairman of Credit Policy. At the time of his retirement CEO David W. Fox said “Clyde has brought to every position he has held at Northern a unique combination of skill, dedication, and vision.”
Clyde cared deeply about his community and volunteered his time and skills freely, serving many professional organizations and charitable and community causes. Most notably he served as Trustee of the Chicago Zoological Society (Brookfield Zoo) for 22 years, and as its Chairman from 1993-1999. He was a Life Trustee at the time of his death. He also served as President of Indian Hill Club in Winnetka, IL, President of Eagles Mere Country Club and Chairman of the Eagles Mere friends of the arts.
Clyde loved the outdoors and was an avid fly fisherman and bird hunter. He and Louise particularly loved returning to Pennsylvania where they had a summer home in Eagles Mere, a place the family has lived and vacationed for six generations counting their grandchildren.
Clyde and Louise also enjoyed extensive travels both when Clyde ran International Banking at Northern and during retirement. His travels took him to 87 different countries around the world.
Clyde adored his family, was loving, generous and took great pleasure in attending grandchildren’s school and athletic events.
