Mr. James O. Powell, age 78, of Towanda, PA passed away on Saturday evening, March 19, 2016 at the Robert Packer Hospital, after a brief illness, with his loving family at his side.
Jim was born on February 24, 1938, in Milton, PA one of nine children to the late Charles & Amanda Roughton Powell. He honorably served his country from 1957 until 1961 in the United States Air Force. After serving in the Air Force he graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy and served as a State Trooper. Upon retiring from the Pennsylvania State Police after 20 years of service, he was elected and served as a Bradford County District Judge in jurisdiction 42-3-03 from 1988 until 2000.
Jim was a member of the Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 and also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also a member of the La Société des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux, where he chaired the registered nurses scholarship fund for 5 years and also was a member of the TAC Missileers.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by five brothers: William Powell, C. Robert Powell, John “Jack” Powell, Ronald Powell, and Richard “Dick” Powell, and by two sisters: Lois Brown and Ruthanna Wolfe.
Private family graveside services will be held at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
