Mr. John Joseph “Jack” Charnitski Jr. age 82, of Mildred, PA passed away late Tuesday evening, November 17, 2015 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA.
Jack, as he was known to his family and friends, was born on March 4, 1933 in Shickshinny, PA, a son of the late John Joseph Charnitski Sr. and Mary Chervak Charnitski. Jack graduated from the Turnpike High School, a member of the class of 1951. He then went on to honorably serve his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married the former Catherine “Dede” Taffe of Dushore on June 30, 1962 in St. Basils Church, Dushore, PA.
Jack and Dede purchased his father’s grocery business, Charnitski Bros in Mildred, PA and owned and operated it until their retirement in 1996. In their earlier years they enjoyed traveling.
Family was very important to Jack and he enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially fishing trips to Canada. He formerly served as the Secretary of the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce and also was a Director of the former Northern Central Bank of Dushore, PA.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3950, Towanda, PA and was a past Grand Knight. He was also a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, PA and a member of the McDermott American Legion Post #452, Mildred, PA.
Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

Jack was predeceased by his father, John J. Charnitski Sr. on September 24, 1977 and by his mother Mary C. Charnitski on April 12, 1996 and also by an infant daughter, Karen Charnitski on October 25, 1964.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, PA.
The family will provide flowers and suggest that memorial contributions be made to the Mildred Ambulance Association, PO Box 74, Mildred, PA 18632 or to the Mildred Fire Co., PO Box 147, Mildred, PA 18632.
