Sophia T. Barry

Mrs. Sophia T. Bahr Barry, age, 80, of Cherry Township, PA passed away on Friday morning, October 9, 2015.

Sophia was born in Dushore, PA on March 22, 1935 a daughter of the late Floyd D. & Clara Bundle Bahr, and lived all of her life in Sullivan County. She graduated from Turnpike High School in 1953.

She married Francis Joseph Barry of Dushore on November 27, 1954. They would have celebrated 61 years of marriage this year. He predeceased her on September 26, 2015.

Sophia was an active member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church in Dushore, PA, as well as a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

She made many friends while a seamstress at Sullcraft and her eleven years at The Highlands. Sophia retired in May of 1997 and spent her remaining years caring for and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She supplied her family and friends with dish cloths that she made in her idle time and all kinds of baked goodies.

Her faith in God was a top priority and kept her strong while caring for Francie in his last years. Family meant so much to her and she hosted the holiday dinners for years.

She enjoyed lunches with her girlfriends and her grandchildren and walked miles every day until her health prevented it. With a smile for everyone, Sophia will be remembered for her generosity and caring heart.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by two brothers, Martin G. Bahr in 1999 and Francis Bahr in 2004, and two sisters: Mary Donovan, in 2007 and infant sister, Clara Ann Bahr.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Richard Rojas, her pastor, presiding. Interment will be in the adjoining parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home on Friday, October 16, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. There will be recitation of the Rosary at 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
