Larry Martin Allis, age 71, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Guthrie Memorial Hospital, in Towanda, PA Larry was born April 12, 1944 in Camptown, PA a son of the late F. Vernon & Ruth Sterling Allis. He graduated from the Wyalusing Valley High School a member of the class of 1962. He graduated from New York University with a degree in English in 1966. He then served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he was involved with surveying and engineering of the air strips and was honorably discharged in 1970. After honorably serving in the Air Force he attended Penn State Mont Alto campus and received a two year degree in land surveying. In 1972 he moved to the Virgin Islands and worked as a land surveyor for 5 years and then returned to Bradford County. In 1978 he began working as a laborer for GTE Osram Sylvania, now known as GTP in Towanda and became a self-taught chemist. He held a number of patents for Sylvania. In 2009 he retired as a supervisor. Larry was a life member of the N.R.A. He was an accomplished musician, playing many instruments including the piano, and he could also play by ear. He also composed many tunes for his family. Surviving: Son: Clayton P. (Magdalene) Allis New York, NY Two daughters: Julia P. Allis Sarah S. Allis both of Liverpool, NY Sister: Roberta (Paul) Lutz Camptown, PA Sister-in-law: Vera C. Allis Camptown, PA Grandson: Zeke W. Allis New York, NY And several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Allis of Camptown in 1988. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA with the Rev. Terry Van Horn, pastor of the New Albany Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Camptown Cemetery, Camptown, PA. The family will provide the flowers and ask that memorial contributions be made in loving memory of Larry Allis to the Bloomsburg Theater Ensemble, for his love of music and theater at 226 Center Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815 or online at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/bloomsburgtheatreensemble.
