Peter William Fitzgerald

Peter “Pete” Fitzgerald, age 81, of Sugar Run, PA, passed away on Sunday evening, July 26, 2015 at his home with his loving wife at his side. He was born on April 23, 1934 in Cherry Township, PA one of eleven children of the late James Anthony Fitzgerald & Lena Ann Stiff. He graduated from St. Basil’s High School a member of the class of 1952. Upon graduation he joined his two brothers in the United States Army Airborne, where he was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged he came back to Dushore where he met and then later married the former Carleen Ely on September 2, 1961. He and Carleen resided in New Jersey where he was a teacher and active educator. He received his Master of Arts Degree in 1973 from Montclair State College of NJ. Peter was a former president of the Lincoln Park School District as well as an active Boy Scout leader. Upon retiring after 30 years in education he moved back to Sugar Run, PA where he was actively involved in the Wilmot Fire Co. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially on holidays. He liked working on his farm and maintaining his farm equipment. Besides his parents he was predeceased in death by his sisters: Helen Tourscher and Kathryn (Carl) Muller, and by his brothers: Joseph, Edward, Paul, James, William & Pat Fitzgerald. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA with the Rev. Joseph Manarchuk officiating. Interment will be in the Wyalusing Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Friday night, July 31, 2015 from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. and on Saturday morning, August 1, 2015 from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Graveside Military Services will be accorded by members of the Wyalusing Post # 534 American Legion. Members are asked to assemble and pass in review on Friday at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
