Richard E. and Joan P. Beury
Richard (Dick) Beury was born on March 20th, 1929 in Shamokin, Penn. He served in the U.S. Army at the end of WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific and Japan. Upon returning to the states, Richard worked for the Pennsylvania Highway Department at Laporte, where he met and later married Joan Cunningham on January 6th, 1951.
Joan Beury was born March 5th, 1930 in Towanda, Penn. and is the daughter of Leo and Pat Cunningham. Joan also worked with the Pennsylvania Highway Department at Laporte.
Richard became Superintendent of numerous construction projects for Charles Sells Inc. in Upstate NY while working out of the Rochester NY office. Joan worked for the Sibley’s Department Store in Rochester NY, was active in several community groups with her main focus being the Leukemia Cancer Society. Their youngest son, Robert (Bobby) Beury passed on from Leukemia at age 5 yrs. on July 19th, 1964.
They moved to Orlando, Fla. in 1980 where Richard was Superintendent of construction for 3 of Disney’s Epcot attractions which opened in 1982. They retired to Ocala, Fla., living at the “Top of the World” community and later moved to Tampa, Fla. to be closer to their family.
Richard passed on from cancer on April 16th, 2011 at 82 yrs. of age. Joan passed on from health complications on December 13th, 2014 at 84 yrs. of age.
They are survived by their son Thomas and his wife Sherrie and their 3 grandchildren: Marc, Matthew and Patty, all living in Tampa Fla.
Mass will be offered in Richard and Joan’s name at St. Basil’s Catholic Church on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 9 A.M., with internment to follow directly after mass in St. Basil’s Cemetery.
