Mrs. Mabel Irene Wells Morrow, age 82, of Sugar Run, well known Wilmot Township resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the Bradford County Manor, West Burlington Township, PA.
Mabel was born on May 20, 1932 in the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA a daughter of the late Rodney & Bernice Young Wells. She grew up on the family farm in New Era, and would later graduate from Wyalusing High School, a member of the class of 1950. After graduation she took classes in Kansas City and went to work for Pan American Airlines (PAN AM) and worked in their long line communications. On June 7, 1952 she married Wayne Gibson Morrow of Sugar Run in the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church, officiated by the late Rev. Norman Robinson and they would enjoy 62 years of happy marriage together. Over the next 37 years, Mabel and Wayne would move around New York State, while Wayne was a Superintendent in the heavy construction business. While living in Big Flats, NY, Mabel was active in the library and the American Red Cross. In 1979, Mabel and Wayne retired and made their home in Sugar Run at the same residence that Wayne grew up in, overlooking the Susquehanna River. For many years Mabel was the Sugar Run correspondent for the Rocket Courier, writing under the penname, “Batina Belfry” which was given to her by Wes Skillings.
Mabel was a member of the Sugar Run Presbyterian Church and was also a lifetime member of the National Audubon Society.
She enjoyed classical music and reading. She especially enjoyed bird watching and doing the annual bird counts. Mabel had a great love for the outdoors and was a nature conservationist. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
