Mrs. Catherine Mary Ryan McMahon, well known Dushore resident, age 92, passed away on early Friday morning, February 20, 2015 at the Skilled Nursing Unit in Towanda, PA.
Catherine was born in Cherry Township, Sullivan County on March 28, 1922 a daughter of the late William & Ellen T. McKernan Ryan. She graduated from St. Basils’s High School, a member of the class of 1941. She went on to attend the Elmira Business Institute. She returned to Dushore in 1942 to work for the Harrington & Co. Creamery. At that time there were five other receiving plants and even some frozen food operating plants. As time passed the plant was sold to Philadelphia Dairy Products, then Foremost and finally Dolly Madison. Catherine worked for them for thirty-one years. After the plant closed, Catherine worked at Sullcraft Mfg. Co. for seventeen years until retiring in 1990 to help Art on the family farm.
Catherine married Arthur Joseph McMahon of Dushore, PA on August 28, 1944 in St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage until Art’s passing on November 11, 2005.
She was a devout Catholic and a very active member of St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society, and all parish and school activities: Spaghetti Dinners, July 4th Picnics, and Spring Teas for the Deanery Ladies. She was a member of the Democratic Party, a member of the Turnpike Red Hat Gals, where she made many new friends. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and especially assembling puzzles, and helping out at the Sullivan County Loan Closet. After her retirement she took two trips abroad to Italy and Ireland which she really enjoyed.

Catherine is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by a son, R. Paul McMahon who was killed in action in Cambodia during the Vietnam War on June 4, 1970 and also by four brothers: Joseph Ryan, James Ryan, Patrick Ryan, and an infant John Ryan.
A Transferal Service will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Richard Rojas, her pastor, presiding. Interment will follow in St. Basil’s Cemetery, Dushore, PA.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. There will be recitation of the Rosary at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
