Rose Marie Miller, 91, a devoted wife and beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, businesswoman, and friend, died Friday, Feb.13, 2015.
Rose Marie “Rosie” Smith was born August 2, 1923 in Mount Carmel, PA. She was the firstborn child of Constance Ramona Pogozelski Smith and Raymond Anthony Smith.
Rosie attended Polish Catholic schools in Mt. Carmel through 10th grade. In 11th grade, she went to Lopez School, and graduated from Cherry Township High School in Mildred, PA the following year. After graduation from high school, Rosie attended Elmira College, to study business.
On September 4th, 1943 Rosie was married to Leslie Wayne Miller at Camp Ellis, Illinois. They had three children, Harlowe “Harley” Rae Miller, Dushore, PA, Cassandra “Cassie” Jo Phillips (Patrick E.), Bonners Ferry, Id., and Leslie Wayne “Wayne” Miller, Jr. (Kim), Dushore, PA.
Rosie was the co-proprietor of Miller’s Hardware and Building Supply with her husband Les until his death in 1994. She continued to run the family store well past her 91st birthday. January 3rd was the last day Rosie sat in her customary wooden-armed chair at Miller’s Hardware smoking her little cigars.
Rosie was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church Zion Chapel and taught Sunday school to the 5 year olds for many years. While her children were still at home, she was also a member of the Dushore Music Club and the president of the PTA.
Rosie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Leslie Miller. She is survived by her children Harley, Cassie, and Wayne. She is also survived by her only sister, Teresa Milleson, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, all whom had the remarkable privilege of loving her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mrs. Miller's name to the Towanda Memorial Hospital, Skilled Nursing Unit, 91 Hospital Drive, Towanda, Pa. 18848.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
