Francis M. McCarty

Mr. Francis M. McCarty age 87, well known Forksville businessman, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015. Francis was born February 9, 1927 in Elkland Township, son of the late Francis M. & Jessie Lula Day McCarty. He graduated from the Estella High School a member of the class of 1944. He served in the US Army stationed in Italy during WWII. Returning from the service, he drove a log truck for Baumunk Lumber Co. and also for Dwight Lewis Lumber Co. He married the former Joyce Shaffer of Forksville on July 16, 1954 and the celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. Francis founded the McCarty Insurance Agency in the early 1970’s and it is still operating in Sullivan County. He was also elected as the District Justice for Sullivan County from which he retired after serving for eighteen years. Francis was a member of the United Church of Christ and was an avid reader. He was a faithful Penn State football fan and never missed a game. He and Joyce spent many wonderful winters in Florida over the years. He was predeceased by a son, Dwight Francis McCarty on April 23, 1982; and by brothers, Edward L. McCarty of Monroeton, and Richard D. McCarty of Dushore and brothers-in-law: Donald Shaffer, Cecil Whiteley, Lawrence Higley, Fred Bennett, and Roger Stephens of Forksville and Victor Menard of Johnson City, NY; sister-in-law: Rowena McCarty, of Monroeton, PA A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at the Forksville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Linda Renninger, his pastor and the Rev. Robert W. Brown, officiating. Interment will be private at the Friends Cemetery, Shunk, PA. Friends and family may call at the Church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service.
