Tom was born on August 9, 1923, in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late Norman J. and Emily Beck MacDonald. Tom attended school in Philadelphia. After school he married the love of his life the former Helen Yarris, of Delaware County, PA. He was drafted into the United States Army the day after he was married for service in WWII, in the 10th Mountain Division. He trained in CO, then was stationed at various places throughout Europe including Italy. He was honorably discharged and returned to Philadelphia, where he settled down and raised his 5 children. He was a truck driver for J Gibson McLlvain company for most of his career, then operated the overhead crane until retiring. In retirement he and Helen moved to Homet’s Ferry, PA, in 1983. Tom enjoyed spending time with his wife and kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters, in-laws and friends. He loved hunting and fishing. The garden was his passion, having made the local newspaper many times as the “cabbage man” for the massive cabbages that he grew. He enjoyed tinkering in his workshop. He was a very kind and gentle man who went out of his way to help people and make them feel at home. He was the greatest husband and father that anyone could ever want. His love will never be forgotten, and his memories will always be in the hearts of all who knew him. Great-Grandchildren: Jonathan, Jocelyn, Dominick, Anthony, Matthew, Michael, Natalie, Joshua, Patty, Ronnie, Heather, Great-Great-Grandchild Lewis Numerous nieces and nephews and his sidekick Tiny the dog. He was predeceased by his son, John MacDonald in 2004, 4 brothers Norman MacDonald Sr., Herman MacDonald, Archibald MacDonald, Oscar MacDonald, and 2 sisters: Elizabeth Heaps and Dolly MacDonald. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 12:00 P.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA 18853, with Pastor Richard Davis, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
