OBITUARY
August Joseph Hebda, age 99, of Stevensville, PA passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda, PA
August was born in Ashley, PA on November 5, 1914 a son of the late Joseph Hebda and Catherine Kraj Hebda. He married the former Stella Koniszewski of Stevensville, PA on November 27, 1941. She predeceased him on March 15, 2012.
Augie, as he liked to be called, was a dairy farmer in Stevensville on Clapper Hill Road for most of his life. He was a hard worker and enjoyed the camaraderie of his neighboring farmers as they harvested the crops.
After 32 or more years of farming he retired and worked for Ted Solowiej for several years where he learned about home building. He then worked for Whipple Brothers in Laceyville where he helped to construct trusses, doors, and other building pieces.
He was also elected as the Stevens Township supervisor for more than 20 years, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed working with his fellow roadmen. He set high standards that are still in effect today.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Wyalusing, PA. He helped on many projects and church picnics through the years. The most significant project was the building of the then new church. He provided lumber from his own woods for construction materials. He also made swings and other pieces of furniture to be raffled off at the church picnics.
Augie taught himself to make beautiful furniture and all members of the family have several pieces of his craftsmanship in their homes. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he will be greatly missed.
