Katherine was born on Christmas day, December 25, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey a daughter of the late Herman Ernst J. Schneider and the late Anna H. Heinzemann. She graduated from the Belleville, NJ High School a member of the class of 1944. She attended college in New Jersey and in Pennsylvania. Kay married Truman H. Purdy of Sunbury on September 11, 1948. She and Truman, who was the president of Purdy Insurance Agency, resided in Sunbury all their married lives. Truman predeceased her on November 30, 1991. Kay was very active in community affairs, including the American Red Cross, and served as past president of the Sunbury Community Hospital Mary Derr Rockefeller Auxiliary. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, formerly St. John’s United Methodist Church. Katherine loved reading, doing her New York Times crossword puzzle and sharing her fond memories of her many travels she made with her husband Truman, and friends. Surviving: Three sons and daughters-in-law: Truman Christopher Purdy & Jamie Yalch, Sunbury, PA James Craig & Michele Purdy, Sunbury, PA William H. & Melody Purdy, Sunbury, PA Six grandsons: Truman Ryan Purdy and his wife Emily, Freeburg, PA Adam Christopher Purdy and his wife Laureen, Sunbury, PA Sean Michael Purdy and his wife Sheri, Selinsgrove, PA Dr. Nicholas Craig Purdy, Miami, Fl. Matthew James Purdy and his wife Lauren, Selinsgrove, PA Jason William Purdy and his companion, John Boyer, New York, NY. One Granddaughter: Kathryn Elizabeth Bryant and her husband Will, North East, Maryland One Step-granddaughter: Season Purdy and her fiancé, Andy Looper, Sunbury, PA Seven Great Grandchildren: Everett Purdy and Olivia Purdy, Selinsgrove, PA Adam Purdy Jr. (AJ) and Owen Michael Purdy, Sunbury, PA Lucas Bryant, Parker Bryant, and Claira Bryant, North East, Md. and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Gladys B. Weaver of Larkspur, CO, a brother, Walter Schneider, and a sister-in-law Carrie Tibbins of Hummels Warf, PA Private graveside services will be held at Barbours, PA on Saturday, January 25, 2014. She will be laid to rest in the family cemetery in Barbours next to her husband Truman H. Purdy.
