Betty was born in Philadelphia on July 27, 1922, daughter of the late Robert M. Adam and Margaret Bruner Oliver Schulze. Betty graduated from West Chester High School, West Chester, PA. While visiting Wyalusing with her family, Betty met her future husband, Bob, at the Middendorf Hotel, where he was working as a bartender for his father. They were married on February 11, 1950. Betty and Bob purchased the former Town Tavern bar and restaurant in Wyalusing, and renamed it Betty & Bob's Restaurant. Betty made up to ten pies a day for the restaurant using her famous oil crust with banana cream being the most popular. They sold the business in 1967. After the sale of the restaurant she went to work for the Wyalusing High School for a short time followed by nineteen years at Tuscarora Insurance Company where she retired as the claims manager. She was devoted to her family and she and Bob hosted many family gatherings at their home in Camptown. She also enjoyed bowling, quilting, gardening, and was an avid card player. She was active in the Camptown Civic Club, bridge club, and the Camptown Presbyterian Church where she served as Clerk of Session for many years. She is survived by son Robert L. Stevens and wife Joan of Towanda, PA; daughter Jill Fecker and husband George of Sunbury, PA; daughter Abbie E. Stevens and fiancé Lee Hulsizer of Stowell, PA; son Richard J. Stevens and wife Anne of Leesburg, VA; grandsons; CPT Robert B. Stevens and wife Bridget of Sewickley, PA, CPT Daniel L. Stevens and wife Brenda of Virginia Beach, VA, CPT Kyle A. Stevens and wife Erica of Ewa Beach, HI, Dr. Jesse A. Fecker, Esq. of Montclair, NJ, Nathan Adams and wife Terrah of Laflin, PA, R. Tyler Stevens, Zachary A. Stevens and Mitchell A. Stevens of Leesburg, VA; granddaughters Kristy E. Fecker of Canton, PA, Maria Alvarez and husband Mario of Stowell, PA; three great grandchildren Sophia, Jonathan, and Parker, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Stevens, stepfather Louis A. Schulze, sisters Margaret V. McKenna and Jane A. Cotter, brothers Robert M. Adam Jr., Jack B. Adam, and Richard J. Adam, nieces Patsy McKenna and Cheri Cotter Simon, and nephew Robert M. Adam III. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Camptown Presbyterian Church with David Dewing officiating. Interment will be in the Camptown Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, November 22, 2013, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA, and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Saturday morning.
