Violet was born March 9, 1925 in Sonestown, PA a daughter of the late Roland & Ethel Phillips Boatman. She graduated from the Sonestown High School, a member of the class of 1943. She married Charles Tyler Masteller Sr. of Nordmont on December 11, 1959; he predeceased her on March 10, 1999. They lived in New Albany most of their lives. Violet was homemaker and loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also found enough love to share with sixty-nine foster children over her lifetime. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, embroidery, reading, and also carpentry. She was very capable of making many home repairs aided by Charles. Her chief joy was the daily maintenance of her magnificent flower garden around her home. She was a member of the New Albany United Methodist Church and a member of the UM Women’s group, the New Albany Community Club, and the Widowed Persons group. She was a very active member of Sonestown American Legion Post# 601 Auxiliary and also attended the Penn York Music Club. Surviving; Two sons: Donald (Sharon) Haines Picture Rocks, PA Walter Leroy (Sandy) Masteller Monroeton, PA Two daughters: Lois (Nelson) Chilson Wyalusing, PA Jody (Jonathan) Fiske Wyalusing, PA Step-son: Charles T. (Karen) Masteller Jr. Towanda, PA Two step-daughters: Shirley (Randy) Bahr New Albany, PA Alice Adjei Dushore, PA Four sisters: Marjorie Houseknecht Muncy, PA Lorraine (George) Phillips Muncy Valley, PA Carol Smith Cogan Station, PA Mary Koch Sonestown, PA Twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kady Haines Franklin Masteller on Jan. 19, 1995; a grandson, Francis Newton Franklin Jr. on Nov. 20, 1988; an infant sister, Phyllis Boatman on March 25, 1936; baby brother Phillips on July 11, 1927 and a daughter-in-law: Patricia Keeney Masteller on Nov. 20, 1995. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the New Albany United Methodist Church, 56 Front St., New Albany with Pastor James P. Rouse, officiating. Interment will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Nordmont, PA The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, May 13, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA 18614 and on Tuesday at the church from 10:30 A.M. until the time of the service.
