Prothero, 83, of Wyalusing, PA passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 following a brief illness. Born in Wyalusing, PA, on April 11, 1929, she was the daughter of the late W. Curtis and Mary Van Horn Prothero. Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Wyalusing. She resided in the red J Morgan Brown Victorian home on Marsh Street in Wyalusing which her grandparents and parents also called home. A graduate of Wyalusing High School class of 1947, for most of her life, Marilyn could be found working (and visiting) at the family business, Van Horn's, on Main Street in Wyalusing. Marilyn's grandparents, Stanley and Cynthia Van Horn opened the candy, ice cream, newspaper and restaurant business, Van Horn's, in 1922. Over the years, the restaurant was phased out and the family added a Hallmark card and gift shop. "Van Horn's" was a popular business and gathering spot on Main Street for many years. Marilyn and her mother, Mary, continued the business well into the 1980s. Marilyn had a love for music and the gift of a beautiful voice to go with it. She had a host of old time favorites and would break out in song at any time. She would often recount the fun and fellowship she and friends had at the many Wyalusing musicals and plays produced throughout the 1940s and 1950s. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening. She enjoyed fellowship and regularly attended many of the area church dinners and functions. She was community minded and an active member of the Wyalusing Lioness Club and the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church. She was an excellent friend and neighbor. Marilyn is survived by her special family, George, Barb, Jon, Elizabeth and Paul Hugo and Ray, Mary Ann, Michele, John and Karl Raffin and cousins Susan Dymond of Tyler, Texas, Michael Dymond of Texas and Henry and Marsha Martin of Granville Summit, PA. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2012, at 2:00 PM at the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church in Wyalusing, PA with the Rev. Dr. Barry Ballard officiating. Interment will be in the Wyalusing Cemetery.
