Steele Sr., age 67, of Clapper Hill, PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 15, 2012, at home with his loving family at his side. Burt was born in Sayre, PA, on October 12, 1944, a son of the late Richard D and Elsie Sutton Steele. He married former Verna Scott of Tunkhannock, PA on December 23, 1961. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. He served in the US Army in the Vietnam War. He worked for International Harvester in Tunkhannock and for Harris Paving in Tunkhannock and Conti Construction and was retired as a truck driver for PennDot in 1999. He was a member of the Gardner Warner Post # 154, Elk Lake, and the VFW Endless Mountains Memorial Post 3583, Mehoopany, PA. Burt loved the outdoors; he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, having built a table for each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burt loved playing cards, especially Texas hold’em and pitch. He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren; supporting them in all their many endeavors. Surviving: Wife: Verna, at home; three daughters and sons-in-law: Linda (Stephen) Garinger, New Albany, PA, April (Tad) Bair, Clapper Hill, PA and Missy Pettitt, Harrisburg, PA; Son, Richard Steele Jr., Fairdale, PA; Two sisters: Barb (Bill) Brown, Clapper Hill, PA, Anna Brown, Montrose, PA ; Three brothers: Mike Steele, Urbana, IL, Terry (Lesha) Steele, Dimmock, PA & John (Diane) Koloski, Fairdale, PA. He was predeceased by a two brothers James Steele and David Koloski. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA with pastor Howard D. Carr, pastor of the Moxie Community Church, officiating. Friends may call on Thursday evening, April 19th from 6:00P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA. There will be a pass in review by the Legion on Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations in Burt’s name can be made to the Laceyville Goodwill Fire Co., 435 Main St., Laceyville, PA 18623.
