Nicola was born in Brooklyn, NY, on September 22, 1923, son of the late Pietro and Lucia Cornacchia Ferrulli. He attended Boys High School in Brooklyn, NY where he participated in numerous sports, including baseball and bowling. He was also an avid handball player. After school Nicola worked at the Brooklyn Naval Yard as a burner during World War II, during which time he met the former Assunta DeFrancesco of Brooklyn, NY. They were married on September 15, 1946, having just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. After the Naval Yard Nicola went into business for himself. He opened a delicatessen in Long Island City, NY, that he operated for 25 years. He then sold it and opened another delicatessen in Staten Island which he ran for another 20 years until retirement. In retirement Nicola and Assunta moved to St. Cloud, FL. They moved to the Wyalusing area in 2009. Nicola was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, St. Cloud, FL as well as a member of The Sons Italy and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and playing cards, especially poker. Surviving: Spouse: Assunta at home Daughters and sons-in-law: Greta (Al) Taylor Palm Coast, FL Diane (Russell) Reen Walton, NY Sons and daughters-in-law: Peter (Kathy) Ferrulli Wyalusing, PA Nicholas (Maureen) Ferrulli Staten Island, NY Grandchildren: Peter, Sherri Ann, Nicole, Russell, Daniel, Deanna, Jill, Nicholas Sisters and Brothers-in-law: Mary (Albino) Tondo Brooklyn, NY Rose Antonucci Safety Harbor, FL Nettie (Tom) Gelormino Staten Island, NY Numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter; Lucille Fissekas, and a brother; Joseph Ferrulli. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA at 1:00 PM. with the Rev. Joseph Hornick presiding. Friends may call at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. and on Tuesday from 10 AM until 12:00 PM. The family will provide the flowers and requests that Memorial Contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society, Bradford Unit, 1948 E. 3rd St., Williamsport, PA 17701-3945.
