October 13, 2011 OBITUARY
W. Thomas Morris, age 85, of 93 Chestnut Street, Troy, PA, died October 13, 2011 in the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Mr. Morris graduated from Mercersburg Academy in 1944, served two years in the United States Navy flight training program, and graduated from Dartmouth College in 1948 with a BA degree in mathematics and English. He was a member of the baseball and wrestling teams at Mercersburg and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity at Dartmouth. Upon graduating from Dartmouth, he worked for many, many years at Troy Dairy Farms, Inc., which was founded by his father, George C. Morris, in 1935 and supplied milk to markets in Philadelphia and New York City. In 1971, Mr. Morris was elected to the Board of the First Bank of Troy and served as its chairman and chief executive officer for 20 years. Mr. Morris was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Troy since 1940 and held the position of Sunday School Superintendent for 17 years, was a member of the Trojan Lodge No. 305, the Williamsport Consistory, the Troy Rotary Club, and the Eagles Mere Presbyterian Church. Mr. Morris served on the Troy School Board and the Western Bradford County School Authority as its chairman, the Armenia Mountain Debating Society, the Elmira City Club, the Eagles Mere Country Club, and the Eagles Mere Association. He also served as the senior usher and Board member of the Eagles Mere Presbyterian Church for 50 years. Mr. Morris is predeceased by his mother, Grace Thomas Morris, his father, George Coursen Morris, and his sister, Mary Morris Holmes.
Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, Edith Dixon Morris, three daughters and sons-in-law: Ann and Thomas Palmer of Coryland, Joan and Paul Theodorakos of Troy, and Jill and Mark Johnson of Tampa, FL; a brother, G. Richard Morris of Laurel Lake, and eight grandchildren: Sarah Palmer Haflett, Jeffrey Palmer, Katie Palmer Vonderheide, Justin Theodorakos, Molly Theodorakos, Benjamin Johnson, Daniel Johnson, and Peter Johnson; and a great-granddaughter, Whitney Haflett. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Troy at 11:00AM, Saturday, October 29, 2011 with a private burial to be held at the Eagles Mere Cemetery at a later date.
