Harriet was born on March 5, 1929, a daughter of the late Arthur and Hazel Tuttle Ely. She attended the Wyalusing Valley High School. She married Calvin Girven of Sugar Run, on June 8, 1946. She helped around the farm and raised her family. As the children got older she worked for a couple years at Betty’s Diner. Harriet then went to work as a rural mail carrier for Sugar Run, from which she retired after more than 20 years of service. In her retirement she traveled extensively, having been to Nova Scotia, Alaska, and all over the continental US on bus trips. She was a member of the Hollenback United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Wilmot Fire Company, and a past member of Wilmot Township Board of Election. She loved working in her flower beds, reading, and watching the hummingbirds. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Calvin Girven, her twin brother Harry Ely, brother Donald Ely, sisters Emogene Adams, and Laura Sabonski, and granddaughter Hawa Girven. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA with the Rev Rich Vieldhouse, presiding. Following the service interment will be in Wyalusing Cemetery, Wyalusing, PA. Friends may call on Thursday, September 29, from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA.
