Manley, age 86, of New Albany, PA passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2011at the Highlands Care Center, Laporte, with his loving family at his side. Walt was born July 5, 1924 in Towanda, PA son of the late S. Taylor and Eleanor Clark Manley. He graduated from the Towanda High School. After graduation he served in the US Army during WWII with the Field Artillery Battalion , he earned the rank of Corporal and served in Pacific Theater of Operations. After being discharged he returned home and married the former Helen Marie McMahon of Albany Valley, on November 9, 1946. Helen predeceased him on December 27, 2010 after 64 years of marriage. Walter and Helen farmed in Albany Valley and also worked as a mechanic for the Farm Dunn’s Garage and the Glenn Plott’s Garage in Dushore. In 1965 he and Helen started Manley’s Garage in New Albany. In retirement they spent their winters in Florida. In their younger years, she and Walt enjoyed square dancing, reading, and traveling. Walt was a member of St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of Wyalusing Post #534 American Legion. Surviving: Two sons and daughters-in-law: W. David & Reta Manley New Albany, PA Burton & Sheila Manley New Albany, PA Three daughters and sons-in-law: Bonnie & Michael Fox New Albany, PA Joni & Brent Raupers Ulster, PA Dina Manley and Neal Gallagher Tannersville, PA Sisters: Mary Henson Florence Williamson Vera Rogers Eight grandchildren: Nichole (Angelo) Pedro Wade (Jill) Manley Kristin (Brad) Vasey Natalie (Todd) Salsman Casey (Mandy) Townsend Karly, Kelsy & Keegan Peterson Seven great grandchildren: Jordan, Danelle, Nicholas & Connor Salsman Maggie Goodrich Cooper & Layla Helen Manley Walt was predeceased by: Beatrice Cashdollar, Catherine McRonald, Frances Noble, Matie Stevens; Brothers: Samuel Manley, Carl Manley, Thomas Manley & Charles Manley & George Rockwell. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 2nd 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil’s Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, July 1, 2011 at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. and on Saturday morning from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Graveside Military Services will be conducted by member of Wyalusing Post # 534 American Legion, Wyalusing, PA and the A.J. Bird Memorial Post # 384, New Albany, PA.
