Joan was born on January 23, 1933 a daughter of the late Stanley & Frances Grace McClintock Novak of Pottsville, PA. She graduated from the Pottsville High School and also from the Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She worked there for many years and eventually became the hospital’s food service director and retired to Sullivan County in 1994. On weekends throughout this time and in retirement also operated the High Knob Inn with her daughter Cindy and son Patrick. Her husband Francis Eugene “Pidge” Hobbs predeceased her on September 23, 1987. Joan retired to Sullivan County to help take care of her mother Frances who passed away on Feb. 20, 2008 and who also previously owned the High Knob Inn. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Pottsville, PA. She was an avid bingo player and also enjoyed playing many card games, especially pinochle and conversing with her many friends and customers. Surviving: Son and daughter-in-law: Patrick J. & Kelly Hobbs Hillsgrove, PA Daughter and son-in-law: Cynthia & Rick McCarty Hillsgrove, PA Sister: Mrs. Shirley McCarty Hughesville, PA Grand daughter Tierne Hobbs and Charles Mingle Muncy, PA Great grandson: Kahyden Mingle Several nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Fred Hobbs of Pottsville, PA Joan was predeceased by a son: Robin Hobbs on July 4, 1977 A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, her pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Patrick Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville, PA. Friends may call on Thursday at the funeral home from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service.
