Joseph Francis Okolowski Jr.

Mr. Joseph Francis Okolowski Jr., age 75, of Dushore, PA passed away on Friday, March 25, 2011 at his home with his loving family at his side.

Joe was born in Chester, PA on September 15, 1935 a son of the late Joseph F. Okolowski Sr. and Wanda Twardowski. He attended local schools and enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War. Joe returned home and married the former Geraldine Ann Wheeling of Chester on November 7, 1956. They recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.

Joe worked as an X-ray Technician for Phoenix Steel for 30 years and for Chicago Bridge for 5 years, both steel manufacturers in Claymont, DE. He resided in Upper Chichester, where he was very involved with the Reliance Hook and Ladder Fire Co. He was a life member and past Fire Chief and well known throughout the Chichester area. He and Geraldine retired to Sullivan County in 1992, living first in Estella and last year moving to Dushore.

Joe was a member of I.H.M. Parish in Dushore, PA. In retirement he was an amateur astronomer, outdoorsman and was an avid fisherman, meticulously tying his own flies fishing in our local cold water streams.

Eight grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by an infant sister, Geraldine Ann.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in the adjoining parish cemetery.

The family will received friends from 10:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s until the time of the service.

The family will provide the flowers and ask that memorial contribution be sent to IHM Parish, PO Box 307, Dushore, PA 18614.
