Jeffrey Homer, Supervisor 1 Grovedale Lane Wyalusing, Pennsylvania 18853 Tel 570 746-1444 Fax 570 928-8116 Email pdh@epix.net OBITUARY Neal E. “Red” Williams, age 69, well known Wyalusing businessman passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital with his loving spouse at his side. Red was born on June 17, 1941 in Dornsife, PA a son of the late Herlan R & Cora Helen Treon Williams. He graduated from the Mahanoy Joint High School a member of the class of 1959. He came to Wyalusing as a loader operator on the renovation of Rt. 6 where he met his wife the former Doris Canfield. They were married in the United Methodist Church on December 4, 1963 by the pastor Rev. Wenzel. His career began by driving truck for Bert Williams in Towanda before taking a trucking job for Welles Mill Co. hauling gasoline. His position later evolved and he became the Heating Technician and worked there for 24 years. In 1977 he started the area’s first self-serve gas station. In 1991 with the encouragement of Cap & Linc Welles he purchased property on route 6 from the Jack Welles estate and built “Red’s Mobil Service Station” which was sold in 2001 and is now known as Pen Mart. Red was very active in his community and was a charter member of the Wyalusing Lions Club which was formed in 1974. He received special recognition for his role as Zone Chairman and was awarded the Melvin Jones Award in 2004. As a faithful Lion in his passing he donated his corneas with the Northeast Eye bank to give his sight to another. He was also an 18 year member of Wyalusing Lodge # 618 F. & A.M. Red loved spending time with his family and friends; whether it was going on their annual family “Christmas Trip”, or tinkering around in his garage with Ed Bidlack. He loved spending time in the outdoors, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also had a great love for animals, especially his old dog Kokey. Surviving Spouse: Doris at home Son: Eric (Becky) Williams Zachary, LA Niece: Sue Williams Halifax, PA Brother and sister-in-law: Harold & Shirley Canfield Laceyville, PA Special niece and nephew: Diane (Bob) Betsko, Sun Lakes, AZ Nephew: Russ (Marilyn) J. Canfield of Laceyville and nephew, Roger (Marian) Canfield of Mehoopany and 8 great nephews and 1 great niece, 4 great great nephews and several cousins. He was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law: Olin & Lulu Canfield, his brother Dallas; niece Judy and her husband Dennis Gutshall, sister-in-law, Ethel and brother-in-law Olin Canfield Jr. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Wyalusing United Methodist Church with the Rev. Penney M. Rahm, his pastor, officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
