OBITUARY
Edward George Grinnell, age 89, long-time resident of Nelson, PA, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Highlands Care Center, Laporte, PA, after a prolonged illness.
Ed was born in Amesbury, MA, on November 1, 1921, son of the late Edward Joseph and Mary Jane (Jacques) Grinnell. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930’s and was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 in the European-African and Asiatic-Pacific theaters.
Upon discharge from the Navy, he studied agriculture at a technical college and farmed both in Massachusetts and Connecticut until 1953, worked as a truck driver in Connecticut until 1972, then relocated to New York where he worked for Ingersoll Rand until his retirement and relocation to Nelson, PA, in the early 1980’s.
Ed is predeceased by five brothers, Joseph, Norman, Robert, Donald, and Rene Grinnell, and four sisters, Evelyn Hanson, Dolly Derouin, Lorraine Kneeland, and Jeanne Perkins.
Ed is survived by two sisters, Irene Laberge of Suncook, NH, and Mildred Warner of Rowley, MA, one son, Edward A. Grinnell of Shelburne Falls, MA, two daughters, Sandra Heran of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Nancy Sargent of Herington, KS, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private Graveside Service will be held at the VA Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY.
